Adult Day Services Spotlight
The Ken Anderson Alliance’s mission is to provide LIVE, WORK, and ENGAGE opportunities for adults with disabilities. As a part of the ENGAGE track, the KAA adult day services program aims to provide meaningful engagements through music, creativity, and community. We currently have 70 participants enrolled in our music programs, art classes, and community excursions. Let’s take a deeper look at the tracks available under the day services program curriculum.
Melodic Connections and Conservatory
Get ready to make some noise! In our music track, participants find harmony with Melodic Connections, an ENGAGE program that leverages music and community. Attendees of any level can explore lessons in guitar, keyboard, drums, or voice. Our music conservatory also offers optional performance opportunities.
In February participants jammed out at Autism Rocks, an all-day music event that raised money to benefit the participants of Ken Anderson Alliance. Melodic Connections’ next performance is slated for the Ridin’ & Rockin’ for KAA event in August.
Also on the schedule are a monthly coffee shop summer series at Just Brew. Look forward to grabbing your next latte with a side of rock, country, oldies and more!
Our music-based program is held Monday through Friday.
Arts and Exploration
In our art track, participants explore a wide range of creative mediums. Artists develop personal bodies of work and collaborate on group projects. Our art program is self-guided; encouraging participants to work with mediums that speak to them. Plus, experimenting with different materials creates room for self-expression and discovery.
We believe art is a versatile experience – use it to make a bold statement or as a meditative outlet. Our program facilitates individuals to feel empowered through art: It’s great for creatives who have swirling imaginations and hands that like to move. A few favorite projects from the past include decorations for our holiday party, cicada hotels, jewelry making, painting, clay and more.
The Arts and Exploration program is held on Wednesdays.
Community Engagement
The Community Engagement Program is ideal for adults who like to explore new places and create memories with friends. Our outings range from racking up strikes at bowling, relaxing at the movies, serene walks in the park to volunteering at the Caring Place.
We’ve found the Community Engagement Program to be extremely popular. Participants partake in meaningful interactions while learning social skills and practicing community safety protocols.
Most important, the program is designed by the participants, for the participants. Part of KAA’s mission is to create space for participants to exercise choice, allowing them to map out their own day services program experience. A few upcoming outings are an excursion to Jungle Jim’s, enjoying the great outdoors, and the Cincinnati Fire Museum.
The Community Engagement Program runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
