The Power of Connection: A KAA ENGAGE Story
When individuals do not participate in recreation and friendship, they can develop limitations in social skills, which may negatively impact employment, education, independent living, and community participation. That’s why ENGAGE is at the forefront of what KAA provides. KAA offers 50+ community outings per month through our two evening programs: KAA Out & About and KAA Night Out.
Meet Amaryllis
Amaryllis has been a part of KAA Night Out for over six months now! When she first joined, she exhibited shy and reserved behavior, but throughout the program, we’ve witnessed extraordinary growth. With each outing, Amaryllis has begun to open up—sharing about her day with smiles and slowly building friendships. Now, she’s not just a group member—she’s a social butterfly with a tight-knit group of friends who think the world of her
Amaryllis’s kindness and generosity have become a core part of the group dynamic. Whether enjoying dinner together or participating in a fun activity, Amaryllis shows up excited to connect, chat, and have fun. Meeting weekly allows the group to build strong relationships with one another. Recently, several group members, including Amaryllis, have celebrated birthdays together! Her group continues to show up for one another by sharing gifts and celebrations—just like any close group of friends. “Amaryllis constantly brings warmth and joy to every outing,” says her Outing Leader, Reagan.

Her grandma has shared that Amaryllis talks about KAA programs more than any other she’s involved in. It’s become a space where she feels truly seen, valued, and included. There’s no doubt that KAA provides a space where she can thrive socially and be herself. Watching her blossom into such a confident and caring individual has been one of the most rewarding parts of this program, and we are so lucky to have her involved!
