KAA Leaders Named Philanthropists of the Year
The birth of their son, Sam, led Jenny and Bill McCloy to become champions for people with disabilities. The Ken Anderson Alliance is fortunate to have Bill as our board president and Jenny as a member of our advisory board. Together, the two were just named Cincinnati Philanthropists of the Year.
Each year, the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Cincinnati grants community awards to “everyday people who do the extraordinary to help others.” The McCloys were inspired to provide help to a variety of Cincinnati charities after their son Sam was born with Down Syndrome 25 years ago. “Sam was a tremendous blessing,” Bill told Movers & Makers Magazine. “He just makes everyone around him better.”
The couple was led to the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati. Bill has held several leadership positions in the organization. Sam’s interest in music brought Jenny to become board president of Melodic Connections, a music therapy program. LADD is another local charity that has benefitted from the McCloys’ interest.
Along with other like-minded families, Jenny and Bill founded Lighthouse Landing with a vision of creating housing opportunities. Once they discovered the Ken Anderson Foundation had a similar mission, the two groups merged to become the Ken Anderson Alliance. Now, the McCloys’ are crusaders for KAA’s goal of creating a 22-acre, $40 million community for people with disabilities to live, work and build a neighborhood together. “We believe adults with disabilities need more choices,” Bill told Movers & Makers. “Our passion is to build this community to give another choice.”
On behalf of the KAA staff, board, participants and volunteers, we congratulate Jenny and Bill on this deserving award. The McCloys’ giving spirit and ongoing support truly make a difference for KAA.
