Engage Programs: Beyond Just Fun
We all want friendship, meaning and a healthy dose of laughter in our lives. Unfortunately, it can be hard for adults with disabilities to find opportunities to engage with each other. That’s where the Ken Anderson Alliance shines.
KAA’s ENGAGE program helps ensure adults with disabilities have the same opportunity to participate in our community as does any other adult, to the best of their abilities and interests. More importantly, ENGAGE social and recreational activities help adults with disabilities increase their independence and self-esteem; improve social skills and develop social relationships; and reduce feelings of social isolation and loneliness.
ENGAGE activities are available weekdays and weeknights. Opportunities include:
- ENGAGE outings to the movies, shopping, dining out, bowling, concerts, sporting events, museums, and more;
- Community-based volunteer opportunities at the Freestore Foodbank, Crayons to Computers, and other non-profits;
- Facility-based music and art experiences including participation in KAA’s pop/rock band or a small ensemble.
Parents and siblings of KAA program participants frequently comment on the impact ENGAGE activities have on family member. Here are just a few of the comments we’ve received:
My daughter always looks forward to going to her Day Program and Out & About activities, and she always returns in a very happy mood. She has made new friends and has gained experience in the community. The interactions and experiences challenge her beyond what we are able to do at home.
It’s such a blessing to get him out once a month to be with friends and be independent of us
Great social activities. Enjoy learning opportunities centered around music.
My son enjoys his time at KAA and really looks forward to the activities and music sessions there. He has become more confident and is proud to tell anyone that will listen about all of the cool things he gets to do through KAA.
