Daniel Found Community through Drumming

Daniel has been a drummer since childhood. Daniel first learned to drum in church, which connected him to his family and community. His father found purpose as a pastor and Daniel followed that legacy in his youth by becoming a drummer at church.

By taking on the role as drummer in The Seasons, KAA’s advanced band, Daniel has found his community once again and developed leadership skills. Daniel collaborated with an artist and friend at KAA’s day program on new band logo designs. He also now takes it upon himself to create and share buttons to promote his band to new listeners.

At first glance, Daniel often appears quiet and serious. He often finds it difficult to start conversations with others. In his Urban Soundscapes group, Daniel meets new people in the community every week and has come out of his shell.

“I’ve really noticed him go out of his way recently to start conversations, especially with other drummers he’s seen play at concerts” said music therapist, Jordan Toney.

Through KAA’s music day programming and music therapy programs, Daniel has connected with others based on his interest and found new opportunities to share his skills and talents.
