Volunteer Spotlight – Meet the Overbeck Family

Meet the Overbeck Family

My favorite part of my job is meeting our amazing volunteers, but the truth is, this month’s spotlight is on a family that I’ve known for a long time. I first met Rob Overbeck at a softball game in 1993 when he was playing on a work team with my then boyfriend (now husband). I reconnected with the Overbeck family when I worked at Stepping Stones and upon coming to KAA, was delighted to find they were also involved here. Rob, Melissa, Robert (aka Robbie) and Tori Overbeck are truly a wonderful family – and we are grateful to have them as part of the KAA team.

When did you start volunteering with KAA?

Rob started volunteering in 2015 and Melissa started in 2019. Our son, Robert, has also volunteered since 2015.

What things do you volunteer for?

Rob began working security at Autism Rocks in 2015, along with members of the Queen City Rugby Team. It has evolved to include set up and clean up. He and rugby team members also volunteer at the Stadium Stride event. Melissa began volunteering in the office last year.

Why do you volunteer?

The Ken Anderson Alliance is a local non profit organization that serves adults living with autism and other developmental disabilities in our community. They have a specific goal of providing a safe place for individuals to live, work, and play. We have an adult daughter diagnosed with autism, and we feel KAA is a valuable resource for her future.

What do you like most about volunteering for KAA?

It’s a rewarding experience, knowing you are affecting the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our society. The volunteers and staff that we have worked alongside are passionate about helping create a brighter future for all people with developmental disabilities.

What would you say to someone considering volunteering at KAA?

It’s an amazing experience knowing you are helping others in your own community become successful, experience the world around them, and live as independently as possible. You can choose to help in any way that fits your life and schedule. Your generosity of time and talent will be extremely appreciated!

Thanks Overbeck family – I can definitely say the same for you all….YOUR generosity of time and talent ARE extremely appreciated!!
