Among Friends: Living in Community
At our recent virtual town hall meeting, attendees learned more about the proposed living options for KAA’s planned community in Springdale. For adults with developmental disabilities, the community will be a place to find support, opportunity and new friends.
Residential Options
Apartment homes, townhomes and single-bed units are the three types of residences planned for the new community. All will be located on a beautifully landscaped and purpose-built campus.
The plans for two- and three-bedroom apartments include units with balconies, high-quality finishes, in-unit laundry and private or semi-private baths. These apartments would be located in a building that also has easy access to other amenities like the community center, aquaponic farm and athletic field.
Planned townhomes include two-bedrooms and a modern open floor plan layout. The townhomes would be available with and without garages. Like all of the residential options in the community, these townhomes are designed to be fully accessible.
Single-bed private units in a shared building are also included in the plan. These units would help pool resources and support for residents who would require those services. This building will also be located near community features like the theater, cafe and walking trails.
Filling a Need
Creating residential spaces for adults with developmental disabilities goes beyond housing. Part of the mission of the Ken Anderson Alliance has always been to alleviate isolation and loneliness among this vulnerable population. Together with amenities for socializing, working, eating, learning and playing, these new homes will create a unique–and desperately needed–type of community that will serve the Cincinnati area.
Fundraising efforts to move the community forward have begun, and while applications for housing are not available currently, we invite you to track the community progress here and on KAA social media.
