Good Jobs Change Lives
Good jobs change lives, and all workers—including those with disabilities—deserve the opportunity to prepare for, obtain and succeed in them. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month and this year’s theme is “Access to Good Jobs for All.”
All workers should have the opportunity to prepare for, obtain, and be successful at good jobs. KAA’s WORK Program provides career planning and employment supports for adults with developmental disabilities. For adults with disabilities, employment helps increase their self-sufficiency, boosts their self-esteem, and helps them develop social relationships which positively impacts their mental and emotional well-being.
KAA is grateful to its business partners for providing work activities for adults with developmental disabilities, and all those who help to create “Access to Good Jobs for All.” Local employers who have hired through KAA include:
- Retailers: Kohl’s, Kroger, Nothing Bundt Cakes, TJ Maxx
- Restaurants: Gabby’s Café, LaRosa’s, Skyline
- Healthcare: Hillebrand Nursing Home
- Non-Profits, Other: Cincinnati Zoo, Goodwill, Stone Pillar Farms
11% of non-institutionalized working-age adults in the United States have a disability—in the Greater Cincinnati Metro area that’s nearly 200,000 adults. The most common disability types are cognitive and ambulatory. For employer resources to hire and retain Ohio adults with disabilities, visit https://ood.ohio.gov/information-for-employers.
